Key details of
Media Player Classic
- DirectShow architecture: MPC-HC uses the DirectShow architecture, which allows it to take advantage of a wide variety of filters and codecs that are available for Windows.
- Internal filters: MPC-HC includes several internal filters, such as a video renderer, an audio renderer, and a splitter. These filters can be used to play a wide variety of media formats without the need for any additional software.
- External filters: MPC-HC can also use external filters. This means that you can add support for new media formats and codecs by installing additional filters.
- Customizable interface: The MPC-HC interface is highly customizable. You can change the skin, the layout of the controls, and even the behavior of the player.
- Advanced features: MPC-HC includes several advanced features, such as the ability to deinterlace video, adjust the playback speed, and capture screenshots.
Developer's description
Gabest was the original developer of Media Player Classic (MPC). He created the application as a closed-source program in 2002 and released the final version, MPC 6.4.9.0, in March 2006. Gabest also developed the popular PCSX2 graphics plugin GSDX. In 2007, he relicensed MPC as free software under the terms of the GPL-2.0-or-later license.
The MPC-HC team is a group of volunteers who have continued to develop and maintain Media Player Classic since Gabest stopped working on it. The team has released several new versions of MPC, including MPC-HC 1.9.24, which is the latest version as of today. The MPC-HC team has added several new features to MPC, such as support for more video and audio formats, improved playback performance, and new customization options.
